I have returned from the location shoot for episode 3- with most of my brain cells intact, even! Amanda- Rebecca Chambers herself- and I braved the ridiculously hot desert...uh, heat and the threat of rattlesnakes to get what was needed. We also saw a sign warning us about the possible presence of mountain lions- apparently they find small children delectable. It was great fun.
At any rate, here are a few screencaps to sate you for now. Episode 3...coming soon to a planet near you!
So check it: tomorrow I start shooting episode 3. WOW! I'm super super super excited because part of the episode will be filmed on location in fake space, aka Mojave National Preserve. Could I have found somewhere appropriate closer to Los Angeles? Probably, yes. But where's the adventure in that? I mean, the Preserve encompasses 1.6 million acres! It features the third largest sand dunes in North America! Space Girls deserves that much.
I will say, however, that one of the show's stars is being rather difficult. I was trying a sweet-ass helmet on Tuffie Firefist, and when I pulled it off...well, her head came off with it. And now it won't go back on.
Will this be the end of Flight Lieutenant Tuffie Firefist? Let's hope her neck decides to cooperate tomorrow!
Meanwhile, I'm getting things ready for the big day. This includes the liberal use of silver paint and listening to the Mass Effect soundtrack to get in the mood to shoot some space opera. Wicked!
Hey, so I made a teaser trailer for Space Girls, specifically to be shown at the Viscera Film Festival. But because you're so awesome, I thought I'd share it with you here. *tear* Enjoy! Or don't. I'm not here to tell you what to do.
...and I bet you do...you may want to take a mosey over to io9 and use 'em to gander at the 100+ pieces of Star Wars concept art posted there today. And Star Wars nerd worth his or her salt has drooled over Ralph McQuarrie's amazing paintings for the original trilogy, sure...but they're also featuring oodles of work from the new trilogy, video games, and more. So quit using your eyeballs here and go use them there!
I swear, this stuff is just likeSpace Girls concept art.
Oh wait, there is no Space Girls concept art. Small steps, people, small steps!
